BREAKING NEWS: Scuba diver dies after being pulled from the water during a lesson near one of Sydney's most popular beaches - despite the desperate efforts of paramedics

  • A 53-year-old woman has been pulled from the water at Sydney's Gordons Bay 
  • Other diver's performed CPR on the woman before paramedics arrived on scene
  • She has been rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition but later died

A female scuba diver has died after being pulled from the water in Sydney's east on Saturday despite desperate attempts to save her.

Emergency services were called to Gordons Bay near Clovelly Road at about 9:40am following reports a diver was in distress and required assistance.  

The 53-year-old woman was dragged by other divers, who performed CPR before paramedics arrived on scene.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but later died.

Eastern Beaches Police Area Command said they have attended the scene and are now making inquiries.

Footage showed paramedics dressed in face masks desperately trying to resuscitate the woman while police and a large number of first responders in wet-suits looked on.
