Doctor duped of Rs 74.57 lakh in online fraud

Rajkot: A doctor who owns a maternity hospital in Bhanwad of Devbhoomi Dwarka district has lost Rs 74.57 lakh in an online fraud.
In his complaint, Dr Nishit Modi claimed he is an active member of a WhatsApp group named ‘Gujarat WhatsApp Group’. He said he received a web address of a surgical equipment manufacturing firm based in Florida on the group and made inquiries with the firm to buy 25,000 thermometers and 10,05,000 3M masks.
The ‘officials’ of the firm promised to supply him the equipment and asked him to place an order. “Dr Modi then made an online payment of Rs 74.57 lakh for the stuff. After the payment was made, the website vanished from the internet, while the officials became incommunicado,” said an official from Bhanwad police station.
