Bihar legislative council chairman tests positive for Covid-19, CM Nitish sends sample for testing

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi have come under Covid-19 radar after state's Legislative Council Chairman Awdhesh Narayan Singh tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi have come under Covid-19 radar after state's Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Awadhesh Narain Singh, along with five of his family members, a private secretary and four staff members, has tested positive for coronavirus.

Bihar CM and his deputy both attended the swearing-in-ceremony of nine newly elected MLCs on July 1 which was chaired by Awadhesh Narain Singh. Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and other ministers and legislators were also present in this event.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Saturday that he and all the officials of the CMO who came in close contact with him in the last couple of days have given their samples for Covid-19 test.

"Nitish Kumar himself took initiative to get tested as he had come in close contact with Awadhesh Narain Singh at an event. At the directions of the Bihar CM, all the officials of the Chief Minister's Office [CMO] have also got themselves tested" a press statement released by the CM office read.

Interestingly, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is in Ranchi jail, has also been exposed to the risk of Covid-19 because of Awadhesh Narain Singh.

Sunil Kumar Singh, one of the newly elected MLCs of RJD, a day after the swearing-in event met Lalu Prasad in Ranchi. According to sources, Singh spent at least two hours with the RJD chief.
