Both attack Adityanath govt over the killing of eight policemen in Kanpur

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday attacked the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh over the killing of eight policemen in Kanpur.

Mr. Gandhi termed it an example of ‘goonda raj’ in the State, while Ms. Vadra, who is the party’s general secretary in charge of the State, said criminals in the State have become fearless as a jungle raj prevailed.

“Another proof of ‘gundaraj’ in U.P. When the police are not safe, how will the public be”, asked Mr. Gandhi. The former Congress president paid his last respects to the deceased policemen and wished speedy recovery to the injured.

Offering her condolences to the policemen families, Ms. Vadra pointed out that Mr. Adityanath himself was in charge of the Home portfolio that looked after law and order.

“While going to arrest criminals, a police team faced indiscriminate firing and 8 policemen including a Circle Officer has been martyred. I offer my condolences to the family members of the martyrs of UP police,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.

“Law and order has severely deteriorated. Criminals have become fearless. Common people and even police are not safe. The responsibility of maintaining law and order lies with the Chief Minister himself. He should take strict action and not leave any room for laxity,” she stated.

Killing of family of four

In another tweet, Ms Vadra highlighted the killing of four members of a family in Prayagraj. She alleged that criminals have come to prevail in the State, which was fast descending into a ‘jungle raj’

“Soon after the dreadful incident in Kanpur, four persons of a family were killed in Prayagraj. A father-daughter were murdered in Ghaziabad. In U.P., it is unusual for criminals to rule the roost like this. In the light of such jungle raj, accountability must be fixed”, she said.
