Mumbai rains: City waterlogged at several places after heavy rainfall, IMD issues orange alert

Mumbai is once again submerged in rainwater after incessant rainfall over the past hours on Friday morning. Severe waterlogging was seen in some low-lying areas of Mumbai. An orange alert has been issued in Mumbai by the weather dept.

Mumbai is once again submerged in rainwater after incessant rainfall over the past hours on Friday morning. Severe waterlogging was seen in some low-lying areas of Mumbai.

Buses and two-wheelers were seen having a hard time navigating through the waterlogged areas like Sion and Kurla in Mumbai.

The weather department has already issued an orange alert for Mumbai and asked local authorities to be prepared for any eventuality. The regional Meteorological department has said, “There could be waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai.”

Short-term disruption of municipal services like water supply and electricity etc is expected. The Mumbai rains have also disrupted traffic in the city’s busy roads. Major roads and local trains could also be affected by the heavy rainfall.

There is also a possibility of old buildings collapsing in the city due to heavy rainfall and trees falling down as well.

People have been asked to restrict movements over the possibility of adversities.

The morning bulletin of the weather department said that intense spell of rainfall occurred over three hours in Mumbai and suburbs. Colaba recorded 57.7 mm and Santa Cruz recorded 11.4 mm of rainfall.

With lockdown restrictions in place, authorities have said that people need to remain alert and venture out only if necessary.
