• Saloon cars aren't as popular as before, with buyers opting for SUVs and hatchbacks.
• The benefits of a saloon car are increased interior space, and a more refined ride.

• We look at seven impressive compact executive saloon cars.

We shouldn't dismiss the saloon or sedan body-style in our local market. Despite the decline in sales during recent years due to the popularity of SUVs and hatchbacks, saloon cars still have a lot to offer.

Saloons offer a more refined experience thanks to the separation of the luggage area from the cabin that keeps road noise out, says Buyacar.co.uk.

Interior space is also more superior to that of a hatchback due to its longer design that creates more space between the rear and front passenger seats.

It's safe to say then that this clip below showcasing several of the best saloon cars on sale won't tickle everyone's fancy, but perhaps it'll make you look at the segment in a new light.

The list compact executive saloons  includes the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, Audi A4, Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Kia Stinger.
