CHENNAI: Around 70 Tasmac liquor shops will reopen on the outskirts of the city -- outside the jurisdiction of the Greater Chennai Police -- on Monday.
The liquor shops will reopen as the intense lockdown in Chennai and its neighbourhood will come to an end on July 5. These shops have remained shut since June 19 when the intense lockdown came into effect.
According to official sources with Tasmac, 70 liquor outlets would reopen in Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts.
Currently nearly 150 shops are functioning in the three neighbouring districts that are far away from Chennai. While the 150 liquor shops are generating Rs 9crore revenue daily, reopening of the 70 outlets is expected to bring an additional income of Rs 6 crore every day, according the sources.
