Rajasthan: Youth makes gangster’s fake social media ID to con people

JAIPUR: Notorious gangster Papla Gujjar has already given sleepless nights to Bhiwadi police, but this time they were challenged by a conman who created a fake ID of Papla Gujjar on social networking sites to con people.
Police on Thursday arrested a 20-year-old youth who allegedly created a Facebook ID in the name of Papla and conned many people. In order to nab and get clues on Papla alias Vikram Gujjar, police kept electronic surveillance through its cyber experts.
“We found an ID – ‘Papla Gurjar Khairoli’ in which the maker of the ID has introduced himself as killer. While tracing the IP address and other things, it turned out to be a fake ID,” Amandeep Singh Kapoor, Superintendent of Police, Bhiwadi told TOI on Thursday.
The youth identified as Arbaaz Khan had created the ID and made nearly 100 friends from Gujjar community.
“After making them friends, he used to ask for their personal mobile numbers to be used for creating a WhatsApp groups to appeal to the community member to help Papla in his escape while police are chasing him. It was found in the investigation that lakhs of rupees were transferred to the bank account number given by the youth who claimed to be Papla Gujjar,” Kapoor added.
The accused also threatened some people who turned down his plea of sending money. “Most importantly he had only one phone which he was using to operate the social networking groups. The youth also claimed to give his support and patronize those who send him money regularly,” he added.
According to the police, the youth is illiterate. “He used to share pictures of guns, arms and ammunition on social media and used threatening tone for police to give people and followers of his page an impression that he was actually Papla Gujjar,” said a senior police officer. Police are also checking his bank accounts to ascertain the details about the money he earned from cheating. “We will check his bank accounts after taking him in police remand,” said another official.
