Telangana in dilemma over fresh lockdown, city denizens rush to villages
A week after floating the idea of imposing fresh lockdown in Hyderabad amid rising coronavirus spread, the Telangana government seems to be in an impasse, worried over possible adverse effects on revenues as Hyderabad contributes over half of state’s revenue collections.
Holding a high-level review on rising Coronavirus spread last Sunday, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had hinted at imposing fresh lockdown in Hyderabad for 15 days with stricter curfew conditions, which includes shutting down flights and trains.
Citing examples of major Indian cities and states like Chennai and Maharashtra that have either imposed fresh lockdowns or extended lockdowns to contain the spread of virus, chief minister Rao said a Cabinet meeting will be convened to take a call.

Zydus gets nod for human trials of COVID-19 vaccine
Zydus on Friday said it has received approval from authorities to start human trials for its COVID-19 vaccine contender - the second Indian pharmaceutical firm to get such nod amid a surge in novel coronavirus infections worldwide.
The vaccine, ZyCoV-D, showed a "strong immune response" in animal studies, and the antibodies produced were able to completely neutralise the wild type virus, Zydus, part of Cadila Healthcare Ltd, said in a statement.

TN govt extends free ration to family cardholders for July
The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced that the free ration for family cardholders will be continued for July, too, and that tokens for obtaining the essential commodities will be distributed at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries from July 6 to 9.
This is in view of the lockdown to contain COVID-19 having been extended till this month-end.
The essentials could be obtained from the respective fair price shops from July 10 at the time stipulated on the tokens.

Gross leasing of office space across seven major cities declined 36 per cent in the first half of this calendar year as corporates deferred plans to expand amid uncertainties over the COVID-19 pandemic, according to realty consultant Colliers.
"Office gross absorption across the top-seven cities touched 16.7 million sq feet, a drop of 36 per cent year-on-year, led by coronavirus-induced economic slowdown and slow decision making by occupiers," Colliers International India said in a statement.

The shipping ministry will push domestic companies to manufacture cranes used for cargo handling at ports to replace annual imports worth Rs 1,000 crore of such equipment as well as work towards increasing the country's share in global shipping recycling business to 60 per cent, according to Union Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya.

UK to allow quarantine-free travel to some low-risk countries
The UK on Friday said that it would allow a quarantine-free international travel to some low-risk countries falling in its green zone list of an estimated 50 nations.
UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the US will fall within the red zone. India's classification is yet to be confirmed.
While the complete list of the estimated 50 low-risk countries is yet to be released, European countries of Germany, France, Spain and Italy have been confirmed as being within the green zone.

To allow tourist passenger vehicles move seamlessly across the country, a new scheme is being formulated under which any tourist vehicle operator may apply online for an all-India tourist authorisation permit, the government said on Friday.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a notification for amendment to national permit regime under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 for promoting tourism across the country.
"The ministry is in the pursuit of providing seamless movement to the tourist passenger vehicles after the success of goods carriage vehicle under national permit regime," it said in a statement.
