Odisha: Govt issues online teaching module for UG, PG students

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department on Thursday issued guidelines for online teaching of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students of all colleges coming under its administrative control. All colleges and universities are closed to students till August 31.
According to the guidelines, online teaching will start from July 13 for students of intermediate semesters/year. Teachers will form WhatsApp or email groups not exceeding 32 per group. They will provide soft copy of notes/textbooks/reference books/good PPTs/recommended lectures to students either through WhatsApp or email.
Good digital study materials are also available in e-PG Pathshala, MOOC (massive open online course) and Odisha State Open University website. Students can visit these platforms.
Teachers will conduct online class with students for at least 2 to 3 hours per day for three days a week. They can use Google Meet/Zoom/Skype or other digital platform for the purpose. The online class must be conducted by the teachers from college premises, said the guidelines issued by the higher education department.
The teachers will maintain attendance register of the students attending online class and also maintain their own lesson plan and progress register. Each department will prepare time table for online classes and submit it to principals who will prepare master time tables for uploading on the college website and sending to students through WhatsApp or email.
Principals with the help of two or three senior teachers will supervise conduct of online classes from time to time. Officers of higher education department and regional director of education (RDEs) will make surprise visit to monitor conduct of online classes.
