NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination (main and advanced) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (undergraduate) have been postponed to September 2020. A decision to this effect has been taken on Friday following the recommendation of the expert committee set up by the ministry of human resource development on Thursday.

A decision which will bring relief to around 25 lakh candidates, the expert committee, chaired by professor V Ramgopal Rao, director, IIT-Delhi, in its report on Friday had recommended postponing the exams in view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation.

“Safety of the students is paramount and keeping that in view and to ensure quality education we have decided to postpone the exams,” said Ramesh Pokhriyal, union minister for HRD.

Subsequent to the lockdown, the competitive exams for engineering and medical admissions were first postponed on May 5. JEE (main) exams were scheduled from July 18 to July 23, while NEET-UG was scheduled for July 26, and JEE (advanced) was scheduled for August 23, 2020.
