After rounds of funding, Jio Platforms on Thursday launched the video conferencing app, JioMeet to take on Zoom, Google Meets, Microsoft teams, and other video conferencing apps. Features of the app include schedule meetings, screen sharing, password-protected meetings, waiting rooms, and more. It is available on Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and directly supports Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
JioMeet’s USPs are offering an unlimited number of free calls in high definition (720p) to users and supports as many as 100 participants at once and to not impose a short time limit on a call’s duration. Jio says that free calls can be uninterrupted for “up to 24 hours” long, which is being offered at absolutely free of cost. Whereas, both these features are part of Zoom’s paid subscription.
You can sign up on JioMeet with your phone number and email ID. There are no codes or invites needed for the call to begin. For those who are joining from the desktop version of the app, click on JioMeet invite link and join from your browser without downloading the application. Jio claims all meetings to be “encrypted” however, doesn’t provide any surety of the calls being end-to-end encrypted.
The platform has a very simple interface — that looks it has been inspired by Zoom clearly —

It’s a clear announcement that the app offers everything that Zoom does and they’re here to replace Zoom. #AtmanirbharBharat
