Elephant found dead near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A cow elephant was found dead near Kandiyur forest beat in Coimbatore district on Thursday morning.
The female elephant, aged between 18 and 20 years, was found dead in an agricultural field. Farmers informed forest department officials who rushed to the spot.
Sources said the elephant had sustained injuries on its left ear. The cause of the death was yet to be known, they said.
District forest officer of Coimbatore forest division D Venkatesh and forest department veterinary doctor Sugumar rushed to the spot.
So far, 13 elephants have been found dead in Coimbatore forest division since March 2020. They died died due to various reasons.
