PATNA: Short-term courses running in Patna University (PU) and its colleges are attracting more scholars during the current Covid-19 crisis. This is quite evident from the ever increasing queries from the students about these courses.
PU Language Proficiency Certificate Courses director Indiber Mukherjee told this newspaper on Monday that a large number of students passing the Intermediate examination this year as well as some professionals were making enquiries about the six-month certificate foreign language courses.
PU runs short-term certificate courses in foreign and Indian languages, including French, German, Chinese, Bengali and Tamil.
“The last date for online submission of forms is August 14,” Mukherjee said, adding that online classes would be held for the students enrolled in the courses.
PU English department has also started a six-month Basic English Language certificate course this year on the demand of local students. There are 50 sanctioned seats in this programme.
According to PU sources, a six-month ad-on certificate course in computerized accounting launched by Vanijya Mahavidyalaya is also expected to attract students pursuing higher education in commerce and management.
Magadh Mahila College (MMC), which already runs certificate courses in IT and skill development in graphics and web designing as well as German and English, has introduced another certificate course in Japanese language and culture from the current academic session.
MMC principal Shashi Sharma said, “All these courses are very popular as they fetch jobs. Admission to the newest course in Japanese, which was inaugurated by PU vice-chancellor H N Prasad last Saturday, will commence in July,” Sharma said and added that the college had also been running several value-added short-term courses in block printing, Madhubani painting, Tikuli art and Jute art and craft. Most of them were meant for MMC students and alumni.
