LUCKNOW: UPSRTC has surrendered 2,194 buses from its fleet of 12,147 buses for a month to save on tax.
The buses have been surrendered at different RTO offices.
"The buses will not operate for a month and that will save the additional tax on each of the vehicle," said MD, UPSRTC, Raj Shekhar.
The surrendered buses include the ones owned by UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and those hired by the Corporation to operate on contract.
The buses would be brought back on road depending on the operational output (profitability) for the month of July.
On June 30, more than 8.8 lakh passengers boarded over 6,000 roadways buses. It's a considerable increase from 52,000 passengers who had boarded close to 1,500 buses on June 1, when buses started operating after the lockdown.
But, the number of passengers boarding the buses in UP is still way less than 15 lakh, the number of people boarding buses before the lockdown everyday.
