Obscene act before women: SHO sacked

LUCKNOW/AGRA: A station house officer (SHO) in UP’s Deoria, who went into hiding soon after a video purportedly showed him masturbating even as he took the complaint of a woman who had come with her young daughter, has been dismissed from service.
After he was arrested by special operation group (SOG) of Deoria police from Basti district on Wednesday, the accused cop — Bhismpal Yadav — was dismissed from service, confirmed ADG (Law & Order) Prashant Kumar late on Wednesday evening. "Yadav was dismissed by the order of the DIG, Gorakhpur range," he said.
The alleged incident happened early last month at Bhatani police station of Deoria. The woman, who secretly filmed the SHO as he sat on his chair in a thana with other policemen around, had gone to the police station in connection with a land dispute. She later alleged that her case was deliberately being delayed and she was compelled to return to the thana several times as the officer repeated the act.
‘Yadav repeat offender and should apologise’
“This was the fourth time he did that. He called me to the police station to discuss my case and indulged in the obscenity. My patience wore thin and I could not bear the trauma anymore,” she told TOI.
“Inspector Yadav is a repeat offender and he should tender an apology publicly. If a law keeper indulges in such vulgarity, where will common people go for justice? I bore humiliation for long, then recorded the video,” the woman said.
A native of Etah, the SHO was nabbed in neighbouring Basti district where he had been hiding for some days. The district police brass had announced Rs 25,000 as reward for information about him. The FIR, however, was registered only after the 2-minute video clip went viral on Tuesday night. Deoria’s superintendent of police Sripati Mishra had formed teams to nab the SHO. He was booked for voyeurism, outraging a woman’s modesty and disobedience of law by a public servant.
“I got to know about the video on Tuesday, when some journalists sought my statement. I immediately asked circle officer Pancham Lal Yadav to probe the incident and take the woman’s statement. Such rogue cops who tarnish the image of the police won’t be spared,” Mishra told TOI. Family members of SHO Bhismapal Yadav, a father of four, said they were "shocked". His younger son, an MBBS graduate from a prestigious Delhi government medical institute, told TOI, “We condemn what my father did. We want to apologize to the women who faced such an obnoxious act. However, we are still not able to understand why he did it. He had been a very humble father to us and a good policeman for the last three decades.”
Talking to TOI, Bhishmpal’s wife said, “I am still not able to believe what he did. In our 35 years of marriage, I never saw him showing this kind of behavior towards women. We have two daughters and he never even spoke badly in front of them."
