No complete shutdown in Vasai-Virar, only shops to shut by 5pm

MUMBAI: The Vasai-Virar region has been spared the lockdown for now. But shops in the region have to shut down at 5pm.
Even as civic bodies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) like Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Panvel, Ulhasnagar have ordered stringent lockdown or tightened restrictions amid growing Covid-19 cases, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has decided to implement the odd-even days for shops and closure by 5pm. Till now shops shut at 10pm. Medical shops can continue to remain open as per their normal timing. Shops have been directed to restrict to five customers at a time.
Around 18 areas in the region have been under lockdown since mid June.
A total of 491 new positive cases were recorded in the region on Thursday. Testing picked up on Thursday with 2,027 swabs samples send for testing as against 1,462 samples on Wednesday. The total positive cases are 4,628 of which 2,075 have recovered.
