PATNA: As many as 40
health workers were felicitated on
National Doctor’s Day here on Wednesday to express gratitude to the medical fraternity for their efforts and contributions.
State health Minister
Mangal Pandey said it is celebrated on the birth anniversary of noted physician and former West Bengal CM Dr
Bidhan Chandra Roy. The day is dedicated to the doctors who are risking their lives for the people in general. “We are indebted to the doctors and health workers for their contributions and dedication for the human cause,” he said.
The
Indian Medical Association (IMA), which organized the function, had ‘Lessen the mortality of
Covid-19’ as the theme this year.
Dr Amarkant Jha ‘Amar’, president-elect of Bihar chapter of the IMA, urged the government to dedicate a hospital for doctors suffering from Covid-19.
Meanwhile, doctors and health workers from different hospitals talked about the challenges they have been facing during the ongoing pandemic.
Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (
NMCH) epidemiologist and nodal officer Dr Mukul Kumar Singh said this Doctor’s Day is very different and special for the entire medical fraternity. “We have been working without leave for the last three months. However, the happiness we get after declaring a patient Covid-19 negative makes everything worth it. Treating patients is not just a duty but our responsibility,” he said.
Microbiology department head at PMCH, Dr Satyendra Narayan Singh, expressed concern over the increasing number of doctors getting infected by the virus. “Doctors are the last hope of patients. But right now they are getting affected by the deadly virus. The only thing we expect from the government is to find some alternative and safeguard our lives,” he said.
Meanwhile, six sanitary staff, seven nurses and five junior doctors of AIIMS-Patna were honoured at a function organized at the hospital on the occasion. AIIMS-P director Dr PK Singh said the health workers fighting the Covid-19 tirelessly were the real corona warriors.
