LUCKNOW:
Aam Aadmi Party UP in-charge and MP
Sanjay Singh has questioned the state over the number of
Covid-19 tests being carried out, saying that if they were increased in proportion to the state’s population, the number of positive cases could explode.
He said that UP has a population of 23 crore and is carrying out just 19,000 tests per day whereas, Delhi with a population of 2.5 crore is carrying out 23,000 tests a day.
Delhi and UP have been exchanging barbs over
Covid management strategies, including the state of migrant workers, since the past several weeks and now AAP has hit out against the UP government over testing. “Just 19,000 tests per day for a population of 23 crore is woefully low, compared a city like Delhi with a population of 2.5 crore where 23,000 people are being tested daily. If testing is ramped up, UP would be in a crisis situation. In such a large state, the number of tests is insignificant,” Singh said.
He added that people were running from pillar to post to get tests done and in many case, he alleged, reports were coming after people died. Accusing the state of a weak health system, he said that a one-year-old child who went to Kannauj for treatment died without any treatment as doctors refused to touch him. “The condition of medical facilities in the state is abysmal and the Yogi government is presenting fake data to mislead everyone. When the state is worried about the infection, Yogi Adityanath is sitting on top of a mountain, waiting for the situation to explode. If testing was increased in UP, the state would report the highest number of cases in the country,” he said.
Singh also hit out at the government over the law and order situation in the state, saying that it had completely failed in UP. He said that a journalist was killed in Unnao, small girls are getting raped and people were getting murdered in broad day light. “There is jungle raj in the state. Two women who went to lodge a complaint had to face the worst kind of vulgar behaviour from a man in khaki. In Unnao’s Bighapur, two young girls were killed in a week. Criminals are operating without any fear,” he said.
