Coronavirus: Complete lockdown to commence in Navi Mumbai till July 13

Due to a sudden hike in positive cases in coronavirus around Navi Mumbai area, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to re-impose a complete lockdown for 10 days, starting from July 3 to July 13. The lockdown will be limited to areas governed by NMMC only.

As per the regulation, only emergency service transport will be allowed to function during the lockdown. Passenger transport services will be allowed for emergency medical purposes. Private vehicles with only one passenger along with the driver will be allowed to travel. Outbound vehicles will be allowed to function, but no interstate bus will operate during the lockdown.

A maximum of five people will be allowed to gather for buying essential goods. All commercial establishments except the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee and Thane Belapur TTC Industrial Area will remain closed. However, government offices will be functioning with a minimum number of working staff. Essential goods and pharmaceutical services will also operate. Grocery and other food item shops will operate from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Banks and ATMs, exports and imports of agricultural goods, internet and data services, petrol pumps and gas services will function during the lockdown, but with required precautions. Liquor stores will only function through home deliveries.

Villages and slums within the MIDC area will have to follow the lockdown too. State government departments will only assist in providing essential services. The subordinate officers of the Commissioner of Police and officials from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation will look after the smooth implementation of the lockdown. Any person caught violating the rules and regulations of this lockdown will be prosecuted under Sections 51 to 60 of the Infectious Diseases Act, 1897, Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
