Tamil Nadu moved closer to the one lakh case milestone with the highest ever daily spike of 4,343 fresh
Covid-19 cases on Thursday. The tally reached 98,392.
As many as 41,047 people are still under treatment while the state reported 57 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 1,321.
The state’s hotspot, Chennai, recorded 2,027 new cases, and its adjoining districts -- Tiruvallur (164), Kancheepuram (112) and Chengalpet (171) -- together recorded 447 cases.
All districts, barring Ariyalur and Namakkal, recorded fresh cases. Perambalur, which had no cases on Wednesday, reported six cases. In south, Madurai recorded 273 cases and Ramanathapuram registered 117 cases.
Tiruvannamalai and Vellore, which recorded 170 and 138 fresh cases, were among the high incidence districts in north.
In central region, Kallakurichi reported 139 cased while Salem recorded 88 cases.
In addition, 73 people who returned from other states and abroad tested positive.
Of the 57 deaths, 12 had no comorbidities.
