JAIPUR:
Health minister Raghu Sharma on Wednesday said that Ramdev has now accepted that Coronil is not a
Covid-19 cure and it is just an
immunity booster.
"He should apologise to the people of the country for this harsh joke," said Sharma.
"If anyone sees the two videos, one issued on June 23 in which he claimed it to be Covid cure, while what he says in today's video that it is immunity booster," Sharma added.
"Now, you have admitted that it is immunity booster, you should have accepted it on the day of launch, we would have had no objection,
Patanjali is selling thousands of products, we have not objected. But, during Covid times finding business opportunity will not be tolerated. We already said if any company is launching
medicine as immunity booster, we have no objection, but if someone advertises it as cure, we will object," he said.
Sharma said it was an attempt to cheat people. "It is a harsh joke on people who are frightened during such times," he said.
On June 23, Patanjali had claimed that they had conducted clinical trials in Jaipur's NIMS hospital and all the Covid-19 patients recovered within 7 days of providing the medicine. The state's health department had objected to the claim and issued notice to NIMS for conducting clinical trials on Covid-19 patients without the state government's permission.
Sharma challenged Ramdev claiming that the
ayurvedic kadha they (state government) had distributed to 20 lakh people in the state and provided to other states, too, has better content than his medicine. "I challenge that our kadha has better content to boost immunity than the medicine produced by them (Patanjali)," said Sharma.
"In times of
pandemic, if he wants to provide relief to the people of India, he must provide the medicine free of cost, why is he charging money. If he has something in his heart to serve the people, he should distribute this immunity booster free of cost," Sharma said.
