KODERMA/GUMLA:
Koderma civil surgeon Dr Parvati Nag lodged an FIR against a father-son doctor duo alleging that the latter are not cooperating with district authorities in tackling Covid-19.
The father-son duo runs the Jai Prakash hospital in Jhumri Telaiya. On June 17, it was converted into a dedicated
Covid hospital but the
doctors and staff of the institute have refused to work.
According to the complaint, Dr Akash Narayan has expressed his inability to work in the Covid facility citing the open-heart surgery he underwent in 1999. His father, Dr JPN Barnawal, a well-known physician, also refused to work citing old age and diabetes.
Nag said, “This hospital is important for us as it is the lone health facility here that has ventilator. But the administration of the hospital was not cooperating with us since Day 1. They also began OPD services at the ground floor without our consent. Hence, we filed an FIR under the epidemic act.”
In another incident in
Gumla district, an ANM and a sahiya under Rampur panchayat in Kamdara block are under probe for alleged negligence following the death of a newborn on June 18. Medical officer of Kamdara community health centre Dr MKM Sahi said, “Villagers have levelled charges of negligence and corruption against the two. We have sent a team to the village for investigation. Further action will be taken against them depending on the findings.”
