PUNE: Maharashtra chief minister
Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday visited the
Lord Vitthal temple at Pandharpur and prayed to the deity for a miracle to end the
Covid-19 crisis.
Thackeray and wife Rashmi performed the ‘mahapooja’ at the temple to mark Ashadhi Ekadashi, the day the centuries-old pilgrimage starting from Alandi and Dehu in Pune culminates at Pandharpur.
“I have been hearing of miracles by Mauli (Lord Vitthal). Now I expect one to happen today itself,” Thackeray said while addressing a small gathering in the temple. He said he had never dreamed that he would get the honour of performing the ‘mahapooja’ at the temple. “I got the opportunity in a situation like this. I am here to pray for Mauli to free not just Maharashtra but the entire world from corona,” he said.
CM prays for miracle to rid world of nCoV crisisThackeray also took to Twitter to express his emotions and thoughts. Through his official twitter handle,
CMO Maharashtra, he said, “I have prayed that we want to see a miracle now. Human beings have bowed on their knees. We have no medicines, nothing. How should we live our lives by wearing masks?”
He was accompanied by his two sons – Aditya, also minister in his cabinet, and Tejas.
The
Solapur district administration had imposed a three-day curfew in Pandharpur in view of the possibility of a large number of devotees coming to the holy town. However, warkaris preferred to stay away from observing the tradition this time. Nine palkhis were allowed to enter Pandharpur in special buses of the MSRTC. Curfew in Pandharpur will be in force till Thursday night and will be lifted once the nine palkhis returned to their destinations, again by special buses. Thackeray also handed over a cheque of Rs 5 crore to the Pandharpur municipal council.
