The CBI has registered another case against absconding arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, who is facing investigations in several defense deals. Bhandari is accused of influencing government officials to get an oil refinery contract awarded to Samsung Engineering Corporation Limited, a Korean company in Gujarat, and took a commission of about $ 5 million from Samsung.
According to the CBI, in 2008 ONGC pulled out a contract for an oil refinery in Dahej, Gujarat, for which it was bid. Officials said that Santech International FZC, based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bhandari, along with senior manager Hong Namkung of the Korean company and UK-based Foster Wheeler Energy Limited, refinery at ONGC Petro Additions Litidate (OPAL) DFCU project in Dahej, Gujarat. The contract was awarded, which was outside the terms.
It is alleged that in this, Korean company Samsung gave $ 49.99 lakh in commission to Bhandari's Dubai account. After this, the CBI has registered a case against Bhandari, his company Santech and Korean company Samsung, besides its official and unknown government officials. It is believed that Bhandari may be in London.
