NOIDA: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the UP government to allow home isolation of Covid patients who are asymptomatic, pointing out that cases are expected to rise substantially in the next few weeks as the state plans to scale up testing capacity.
Members of the IMA, mostly private doctors, said they had met the Noida district magistrate and chief medical officer several times in the past three to four days and stressed on their demand. Though Noida is gearing up to deal with the expected surge in cases - setting up isolation and quarantine centres and increasing the number of beds on a war footing - shortage of trained staff has been proving to be a major challenge for the authorities.
"If such patients are allowed to stay at home, beds and manpower can be dedicated for level 2 and 3 facilities, where people actually need greater medical care. The emerging situation calls for home isolation of asymptomatic patients," said Mohita Sharma, general secretary of the IMA's Noida chapter.
