Covid-19 deaths, the second highest in a day so far. With this, the death toll stood at 7,855, very close to the 8,000 mark.
The state update said 95 deaths occurred in the last 48 hours while the other 150 had occurred earlier and were added to the tally on Tuesday. June has been the deadliest month as a total of 5,569 deaths were reported. Of these, most deaths were those added to the tally as part of a massive data cleaning exercise.
On Tuesday, 4,878 new cases were reported, a dip compared to the last four days. The total count has touched 1,74,761, of which 1.07 lakh were added in June alone.
Mumbai reported 893 cases, the second lowest addition in June, on Tuesday. There were only three days in June when fresh cases were fewer than 1,000. The city has touched 77,658 cases, of which 37,972 were added in June. The city reported 93 deaths, of which 57 were from previous days. With these, the death toll has touched 4,556. The city added 3,184 deaths in June compared to 989 in May, 281in April and 7 in March.
