GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said
Union home minister Amit Shah called him up to say that ICMR is seeing the rising trend of Covid-19 cases in Guwahati similar to that of Mumbai and Delhi.
“The home minister conveyed to me that according to Centre’s assessment there is fear of deterioration of the situation in Guwahati. He suggested several measures to step of the testing process,” the health minister said.
“The home minister told me that ICMR findings point at Guwahati’s Covid cases are rising in the same trend as it was found in Mumbai and Delhi,” Sarma added.
In the last 24 hours, 502 positive cases were reported in Guwahati, which is the largest city in the northeast and the gateway to the entire region.
On Wednesday till noon already 122 positive cases have been reported in the city.
Sarma tweeted, “140 new #COVID19+ cases detected. I must mention that 122 out of these are from Guwahati City and it is my humble plea to all to strictly follow lockdown guidelines to be able to flatten the curve. No need to panic, however.”
