LUCKNOW: In the wake of an impending surge during the rainy season, the Uttar Pradesh government has increased the number of Covid-19 beds from available 1.01 lakh to 1.51 lakh.
“As per instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, over 50,000 beds have been added to the existing strength of 1.01 lakh. With this, 1.51 lakh beds are reserved for Covid patients in Uttar Pradesh,” additional chief secretary, health, Amit Mohan Prasad said.
The CM had directed the health and medical education department to increase the number of Covid-19 beds in high burden districts. It may be noted that UP has rolled out a three-layer system for management of positive cases.
“Over 80% beds at the level two have oxygen facilities, while those at level three have ventilators which appears to be enough even if active cases double in the state,” a senior officer said.
