Representative imageCHANDIGARH: A Haryana Police constable and a special police officer (SPO) on night patrol were brutally stabbed to death by unidentified persons on Gohana-Jind road of Sonipat district in the wee hours of Tuesday. One of the alleged killers was killed during a police raid at a Jind house in the evening while another, who was injured in the exchange of fire, was arrested and hospitalized.
SPO Kaptan Singh (43) and Constable Ravinder Singh (28) were found lying in a pool of blood on the road, barely 300 metres from Butana police post by a passerby on Tuesday morning and he informed cops at the police post. The SHO of Baroda police station and other officers reached the spot soon after and a case was registered at Baroda police station. The two cops had left the Butana police post for night patrol post-midnight.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that there was more than one assailant. The assailants might have come in a four-wheeler and the cops might have stopped them for checking, and this may have led to the killing,'' said ASP Gohana Uday Singh Meena.
One injured accused held in Jind raid, another flees
We have got very crucial leads about the accused and are hopeful of arresting them at the earliest. The cops have been cremated after getting their autopsy done. The DGP has declared the slain cops martyrs as they have laid their lives in the line of duty,’’ Meena added.
Both the victims had deep stab wounds and the assailants seemed to have deliberately attacked them with sharp-edged weapons at sensitive points,’’ an official associated with investigations said.
On Tuesday evening, the Crime Investigation agency (CIA) and cyber cell wing teams from Sonipat conducted a raid at a house on Rohtak-Jind road in Jind. One of the accused Amit Kumar was killed during the raid while his aide Sandeep Kumar of Jind was arrested after he was injured. Their third accomplice Vikas Kumar managed to flee.
According to police, the criminals opened fire at them when they raided the house and five policemen, including two inspectors Prashant and Anil, were injured. Inspector Prashant was taken to PGIMS, Rohtak. "The criminals even attacked the police with sharp-edged weapons. The arrested accused is undergoing treatment at Civil hospital in Jind," said a senior Sonepat police official.
Deputy inspector general (DIG) cum Jind SP, Ashvin Shenvi told TOI: "Police were tracking the men who had killed two police personnel in Butana area of Gohana town and raided the house. One body has been recovered."
