Goa records fourth COVID death

Margao: Goa registered its fourth COVID death early on Wednesday morning, as a 66-year-old man from Taleigao passed away in the COVID Hospital.

The man had been suffering from chronic lung disease, and had been receiving treatment in the COVID Hospital since early June.

Confirming the development, COVID district co-ordinator, medical superintendent of Hospicio and deputy director Dr Ira Almeida said, “The patient had an underlying condition of chronic lung disease or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and had been admitted to the COVID Hospital on June 9. He had been receiving treatment for his conditions.”

The patient was initially been admitted to the TB Hospital in St Inez for pulmonary related symptoms, and was later shifted to the Margao-based designated COVID Hospital   after he tested positive for the deadly virus.

This is Goa’s fourth death after an 85-year-old man from Morlem, a 58-year-old man from Vasco and a 76-year-old woman from Fatorda passed away last month.  These patients also had lung-related illnesses including COPD and pneumonia.

Patients with COPD have been known to have a higher risk of developing severe COVID infections than others. NT
