NEYVELI: At least two persons were killed and 16 others injured when a boiler exploded on Wednesday at the thermal plant of
Neyveli Lignite Corporation (
NLC) in
Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district.
The mishap occurred around 10 am at the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II (210 MW x 7) when workers were in the process of resuming operations this morning, an NLC official told ET.
"Two men died on the spot, four others workers are feared trapped, and 16 others suffered burn injuries," the official said, adding that the injured were rushed to a Chennai hospital.
Officials feared the death toll may go up. The whole area has been cordoned off to prevent hundreds of villagers who gathered there from getting closer to the accident site.
