One arrested, container loaded with 40 new bikes recovered in Lucknow

KANPUR: A 22-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday after he had stolen a container truck loaded with 40 new bikes worth Rs 50 lakh in Maharajpur area of the city.
The thief, identified as Satendra, a resident of Sarai Meera in Kannauj, was nabbed by a team of police personnel led by Inspector Maharajpur Raghvendra Singh when he was trying to park a container containing 40 bikes near the over bridge in Ahirwan area of Chakeri on Tuesday.
Satendra tried to flee on seeing the policemen approaching, but was nabbed after a brief chase.
A search of the container led to major revelation wherein it was found that the container loaded with new 40 bikes was the same that had been stolen in the early hours of Monday from near Radhey Dhaba petrol pump in Sarsaul area under the limits of Maharajpur police station of the district. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged by the driver of the container truck at Maharajpur police station on Monday.
“The accused had fled with a container comprising of 40 bikes worth Rs 50 lakh of a renowned brand. He has been taken to the Maharajpur police station for questioning,” said SSP Dinesh Kumar P.
Police said Satendra, who is an auto lifter, used to steal vehicles parked by the highway in the region.
He told police that he had been selling most of the vehicles immediately after stealing them. “It is also suspected that these vehicles could have been supplied to some big gang of auto-lifters and we are verifying this,” a police officer said. “We will get more details in the theft case only after thorough investigation,” officer said further.
