HYDERABAD: A bench of
Hyderabad High Court has pulled up the
Telangana government for halting Covid-19 testing despite the court’s repeated directives to increase the numbers of tests when there was a spike in
coronavirus infections in the state.
On Wednesday, the two-judge bench of Chief
Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy warned that it will initiate contempt proceedings against the state government if it is not satisfied with its explanation on why its orders were not followed.
The state government has been given time until July 17 to submit its reply.
The bench regarded the attitude of the
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government headed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as violation of the Fundamental Right to live. This comes days after the state government said it had found problems with the testing protocols, human resources, infrastructure and infection control measures at some private labs where testing for the infection was being done.
