Camrabhat sealed as man tests positive for virus

Panaji: Camrabhat, a slum-like locality in Taleigao on the outskirts of the state capital, was sealed on Wednesday after a resident of the area tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Panaji MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate told ‘The Navhind Times’ that as per his information the family held a party a few days back celebrating their child passing the Std XII examination.

Revenue Minister Jenifer Monserrate, who is Taleigao MLA, is already in touch with the North Goa collector for taking measures in the locality, Atanasio Monserrate said, adding that the health authorities will start taking throat swab samples of the people from Camrabhat from Thursday.

“Once testing is done the authorities will decide on declaring the locality as a containment zone,” he said.

After learning that the positive COVID positive man’s wife is a sweeper of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, mayor Udai Madkaikar asked all CCP workers from Camrabhat not to report for work.

“Almost 50 per cent of the CCP’s sweepers live at Camrabhat. Hence we have directed them to stay at home and get themselves tested for the virus,” Madkaikar said, adding that the area has been sealed.

Camarabhat is a shanty town and home to over 1,000 people.
