Odisha: Celebrities delete TikTok accounts, desi app Chingari surpasses 3.5 million downloads

BHUBANESWAR: Celebrities and popular users of video sharing platforms including TikTok and Helo have deleted their accounts on Tuesday after the Centre banned 59 Chinese mobile apps including these two. On the other hand, desi video sharing app Chingari developed by Odia youth with his friends got more then 3.5 million downloads by Tuesday evening.
International sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has deleted his TikTok account. He had more than 34,500 followers and 1.1 million likes in the account. "Now, I have deleted my TikTok account to respect our government decision," he added.
Babushaan Mohanty, Odia film actor and singer, said he has two accounts- one at TikTok and another at Helo app. His verified TikTok account has more than 1.35 lakh followers, while Helo account has over 1.58 lakh followers.
"My extended family on social media is very important to me just like my family. However, it is very important to become a responsible citizen. As our government banned use of 59 Chinese apps in India, I took down my verified accounts from Tiktok and Helo. I thank everyone for all the love in these two places," said Mohanty.
Like Pattnaik and Babushaan, several others have also deleted their accounts from these Chinese apps.
Meanwhile, Chingari app developed by Odia youth Biswatma Nayak with his two other friends are getting great response from people who are migrating from TikTok, Helo, Vigo Video and other Chinese video sharing apps. Chingari has witnessed more than 3.5 million downloads by Tuesday evening.
"Today we are getting one lakh downloads every your. Our servers are on fire. What a response!!! We are working very hard to maintain our server," said elated Nayak.
Sumit Ghosh of Chingari said in his tweet on Tuesday that the response from users is overwhelming. "Hey Bharat! We managed to crash our servers again. Please be patient. Our teams are working on it. We are woking very hard since last 48 hours, sleeping less than two hours and making sure we could scale up all parts of our infrastructure fast," he tweeted.
