Over 25,000 people in the affected districts have fled their homes and taken shelter in temporary relief campsGUWAHATI: Floods on Tuesday claimed three more lives, two in Barpeta and one in Dibrugarh districts, taking the toll in the state to 27. A female rhino was also found dead at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district.
The deluge has so far affected 23 of the 33 districts and has hit over 14 lakh people across the state.
According to the data issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, in Barpeta district alone, more than 4.86 lakh people have been hit by the floods. Nearly 2 lakh others have been hit in South Salmara district and over 1 lakh in Nalbari district.
Over 25,000 people in the affected districts have fled their homes and taken shelter in temporary relief camps.
On the other hand, 143 of the 223 watch camps in Kaziranga National Park have been affected. Of these, six camps have been vacated so far because of the floods.
The SDAM reported that 25 animals have been rescued so far.
In Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, too, 19 of the 40 camps have been hit while in Pobitora Wildlife Sancturay, 12 of 25 camps have been affected of which two camps have been shifted owing to the floods.
