76-year-old man dies of Covid-19 in Thiruvananthapuram; Kerala's toll rises to 24

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state recorded the 24th Covid death on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Thankappan, 76, a resident of Vattiyoorkavu. He had returned from Mumbai by flight on June 27. Owing to respiratory ailments, the man was shifted to General Hospital.
When his condition worsened, the 76-year-old was shifted to medical college hospital where was first taken to critical care and later to ICU. The patient died on Saturday night, June 27. The swabs were taken and sent for testing to medical college lab and NIV Alleppey.
The results of the samples came out positive on June 29. The body has been kept at medical college mortuary. The college authorities have forwarded the communication to city corporation secretary for the funeral procedure. The corporation will finalise funeral procedure following discussion with relatives. The final rites will be performed in accordance with Covid protocol and the cremation will be held at Santhikavadom at 3pm.
Thankappan had been diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The authorities said that he was also hypertensive and diabetic. This is the fifth death due to coronavirus in Thiruvananthapuram.
