A gas leak at the plant of Sainor Life Sciences Pvt Ltd at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, Parwada, Visakhapatnam, has claimed two lives and injured about six people.

According to police, as per the preliminary findings, there was a benzene gas leak, probably late Monday night, which came to light only in the wee hours of Tuesday. 

About 30 employees were working in the plant at the time of the mishap. On inhaling the gas, around six persons collapsed and were rushed to hospital and two succumbed. The names of the victims are yet to be officially released and the management has not responded yet.

The company manufacturers Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) with compliance to USFDA and other global norms.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has enquired about the incident and police has forced the plant shut as a precautionary measure. Further investigation is on.
