Laxmmi Bomb is the Hindi remake of hit Tamil film Kanchana.
With theaters closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, several Bollywood filmmakers are opting to release their movies directly on OTT platforms. The latest film to hop on the bandwagon is horror-comedy Laxmmi Bomb. Starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, the movie will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar.
Laxmmi Bomb is the official Hindi remake of hit Tamil film Kanchana. It is being directed by Raghava Lawrence, who had also directed and starred in the original movie. The plot revolves around a man who is afraid of all things supernatural, but through a twist of fate, he is forced to confront his fear as his body gets possessed by the spirit of Laxmmi.

Calling Laxmmi Bomb his “passion project”, Akshay Kumar, who was part of the Disney Plus Hotstar virtual press conference, said, “Horror-comedy is my favourite genre. I had done Bhool Bhulaiyaa before this one. I had heard this story many years ago and I always wanted to make this film. It was like my passion project, but it kept getting delayed for one reason or the other. Eventually, everything fell into place and here we are. I’d like to give a huge credit for this to my co-producers Shabina Khan and Tusshar Kapoor. Also a big thank you to our director Raghava Lawrence.”

Akshay plays the character of a transgender in Laxmmi Bomb. Calling it his most challenging portrayal, the actor said, “In my entire 30-year-long career, this has been my most intensive role mentally. I’ve never experienced such a character before, with this kind of action, reaction, body language. Credit for this goes to my director. He introduced me to a version of me that I didn’t know even existed. Also, I had to be cautious of playing it with full honesty without offending any community. For the first time, I willingly gave so many takes and retakes, so that every shot is captured to its maximum potential. Even after doing some 150 films, I was very excited to be on set every single day, pushing my boundaries, learning more about myself. This film has taught me more about gender equality. Be anything you want, just don’t be ignorant.”

Laxmmi Bomb is the third project of Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani. The duo first collaborated for Akshay’s production Fugly which was Kiara’s debut Bollywood film. They later shared screen space in Good Newwz.
Laxmmi Bomb was set to release during Eid this year, but it got postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Apart from Laxmmi Bomb, Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz and Kunal Kemmu’s Lootcase will also be releasing on Disney Plus Hotstar.
