Surely A C8 Corvette Stands No Chance Against A Dodge Demon In A Straight Line, Does It?

If you want a car that will accelerate at frightening speeds, it’s easy to get sucked into the idea of power being the most important factor. However, as this video from Throttle House shows, power is nothing without grip.

The YouTubers recently had the opportunity to pit a 2020 Corvette Stingray against a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. These cars are among the most thrilling and exciting to be released in the U.S. over the past few years, and while they both offer superb performance, they deliver their performance in very different ways.

The Demon is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 pumping out 840 hp and 770 lb-ft (1,042 Nm) of torque. Dodge designed the limited-edition Challenger for the sole purpose of storming down the quarter-mile; thus, when running in perfect conditions and on a prepped drag strip, the muscle car can rocket to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.3 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph (225 km/h), making it one of the most accelerative cars on sale.

By comparison, the C8 Corvette uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 with 495 hp but, unlike the Demon, it is mid-engined, meaning it has more weight over the rear wheels and doesn’t suffer from the traction issues the Demon has.

In theory, with such a huge power advantage, the Demon should come out on top in this race. So, did it?
