Coronavirus LIVE Updates: The government today announced that lockdown in containment zones will continue till July 31 as it unveiled Unlock 2.0 guidelines. Schools, colleges, educational institutions and coaching centres, cinemas, religious shrines, gyms, international air travel and metro services will remain closed till the end of July.

After Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu today extended the lockdown in the state till July 31. The intense lockdown in state capital Chennai and four other districts will continue till July 5.

Containment Zones Rules | In containment zones, only essential activities will be allowed. There shall be strict perimeter control to ensure that there is no movement of people in or out of these zones, except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services.

Containment Zones Demarcation/Information | Containment Zones will be demarcated by the district authorities after taking into consideration the guidelines by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with the objective of effectively breaking the chain of transmission. These containment zones will be notified on the websites by the respective district collectors and by States/UT and information will be shared by the Health Ministry.

UP Universty Examinations to be Called Off | A four member committee appointed to review decision regarding holding state university exams amid the Covid-19 lockdown in its report today have recommended calling off the exams citing health hazards. State universities in the state were seeing protests by students and teachers associations against earlier order of holding the exams. The body had cited example of Mumbai University, where students were promoted on the bases of their results on previous semester. Sources say methodology of promotion and criteria of holding exams on some categories will be declared over the next few days. Twenty state universities and more than 50 lakh students will be impacted by this decision.

India’s first coronavirus vaccine, COVAXIN, which has been developed by Bharat Biotech, has received approval from the DCGI to conduct Phase I and II human clinical trials. These trials are scheduled to start across the country in July.

The central government is likely to release guidelines related to the second phase of the opening up of the economy, sources told CNN-News18 today.

Imports from pharmaceutical major Mylan, containing raw materials for Remdesivir and Favipiravir, have been stalled at Mumbai Air Cargo for five days, sources told CNBC-TV18 today. Studies have found that anti-viral drugs Remdesivir and Favipiravir can aid in the treatment of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the state would introduce tele-medicine services from July 1 to enable patients to consult doctors for medical advice over telephone instead of visiting hospitals and clinics. The state's chief secretary has requested the Centre to stop running long-distance trains to Bengal in order to curb the spread of coronavirus. "We have requested that trains from five Covid-19 hotspots be suspended for the time being," she said, adding that domestic flights to the state should also be restricted.

The Maharashtra government on Monday announced that the entire state will remain in lockdown till July 31 to curb the spread of coronavirus. Under the extended lockdown, the government has empowered district collectors and municipal commissioners to impose restrictions on non-essential activities. The government said that movement of people for non-essential activities like shopping and outdoor exercise will be restricted in neighbourhood areas. Maharashtra, with over 1.64 lakh novel coronavirus cases, is the worst hit state in the country.

Project PLATINA, the world's 'largest' convalescent plasma therapy trial cum project in treatment of severe Covid-19 patients, was today launched by the Maharashtra government. It will be world's largest trial cum treatment project in the world where in government intends to benefit and save around 500 lives of critically ill covid 19 patients of Maharashtra.

A single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases took India's tally to 5,48,318 today, while the death toll climbed to 16,475 with 380 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data. This is the sixth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000. The country has seen a surge of 3,57,783 infections from June 1 till date. The number of active cases stands at 2,10,120, while 3,21,722 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data. "Thus, around 58.67 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said. The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.

Delhi recorded 2,889 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally in the city over the 83,000-mark, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,623, authorities said. The number of containment zones in the city also jumped to 417 on Sunday from 315 on Saturday, according to a Delhi health department data. The national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases on June 23. Recently, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the city worst-hit by the pandemic in the country. Sixty-five fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Delhi health department bulletin said. It said the death toll due to coronavirus has risen to 2,623 and the total number of cases mounted to 83,077.

A 52-year-old doctor of the city government-run LNJP Hospital who was in the frontline in the war against COVID-19 died of the disease in the ICU of a private facility on Sunday, officials said. Also, a 53-year-old man, who was employed as a ward boy in the NDMC-run Hindu Rao Hospital, succumbed to the infection, they said. According to the bulletin, 52,607 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far. The number of active cases in the national capital stood at 27,847.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown for another 15 days, from July 1 to 15, in the state, which has so far reported a total of 1,092 cases. The lockdown was supposed to be lifted on June 30. Singh also announced that inter-district bus service will be operational between July 1 and 15 maintaining all Covid-19 safety measures and no other public transport will ply during this period. The decision about continuing with the bus service beyond July 15 will be taken later, officials said.

About the coronavirus situation, the chief minister said the state now has 660 active cases while 432 patients have been recovered and released from hospitals. The testing capacity in Manipur has increased to nearly 2,600 tests per day, he said adding that there is no case of community transmission of the disease in the state. All positive cases are returnees except seven frontline workers who were in direct contact with patients, Singh said.
