Zuarinagar is containment zone

Margao: South Goa district collector Ajit Roy on Monday declared most areas of Zuarinagar as a containment zone, factoring in the spike of COVID positive cases in the localities.

The order says that “parts of ward number seven, eight, and nine of  Sancoale village (Zuarinagar area),  bounded  on one side NH-17 B, starting point  opposite  ZIOL tanker and end point  opposite  Zuarinagar  government  high school, near  internal road starting from  electricity department compound, Zuarinagar to Umeya building”   have been declared as a containment zone after 29  members from  17 families  tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roy declared the Zuarinagar localities as containment zone exercising the powers  conferred  upon  him under sections  30 and  34 of the  Disaster  Management Act  2005 and under provisions of the Epidemic  Diseases Act  1897  read with the Goa Epidemic  Disease  COVID-19  Regulation  2020’. 

However, the Umeya building, the electricity quarters, and the Lamani colony areas have been declared as buffer zone.

Screening of suspects, testing of suspected cases, quarantine, isolation, social distancing and other public health measures in the containment zone are some of the initial steps mentioned in the action plan.

The order highlights that the eight-member rapid response team will investigate the outbreak and initiate control measures by assessing the situation, and that the deputy collector,   Mormugao, will head the team.

The other members of the team include the deputy superintendent of police, Mormugao, health officer Vasco, deputy director of south, fire station officer, mamlatdar, civil supply inspector and executive engineer (PWD), Vasco.

Parts of Moti Dongor declared containment zone

Margao: Parts of densely populated Moti Dongor slum in Margao were declared as a containment zone by South Goa district collector Ajit Roy   on Monday after 17 people tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roy in his order  said,  “Parts of  ward number 18  of  Margao municipal council  starting from  Sulabh Sauchalaya near  Masjid, to BSNL quarters  and parts of  ward number 22,  beginning from  Renuka Devi  temple to  public  water tank  are declared as  containment zone while  the all the other areas of these two are  declared as  buffer zone.” 

The containment zone has been declared to contain the spread of   the virus, the order said. 

Interestingly, all those declared containment zones in South Goa are densely populated areas.
