Covid-19: Gujarat records 626 cases, 19 deaths in 24 hours; tally at 32,023, toll at 1828

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat on Monday added 626 Covid-19 cases – 13 cases every half an hour in the past 24 hours – the highest for the state so far. With the update, Gujarat’s tally reached 32,023. It's the third consecutive day for the state to post the highest daily tally and 600-plus cases.
It’s also the highest daily tally for Surat district that for the first time crossed the 200-cases mark.
Gujarat recorded 19 deaths and 440 discharges in 24 hours, taking the state death toll to 1828 and 23,248. The state now has 21.7% (6,947) active cases whereas the percentage of discharged and dead patients stand at 72.6% and 5.7%.
The new cases include 236 from Ahmedabad, 206 from Surat, 50 from Vadodara and 20 from Patan. The deaths included nine from Ahmedabad, four from Surat, two from Surendranagar and one each from Banaskantha, Rajkot, Kheda and Amreli. In the past four days, it’s for the second time that Ahmedabad recorded a single-digit death toll.
Surat recorded the highest discharges (187), followed by 171 from Ahmedabad, 26 from Vadodara and 10 from Anand.
With the update on Monday, Ahmedabad has 20,176 total cases, Surat 4,630 and Vadodara 2,215. The three districts consist of 84.4% of total cases. The three districts cumulatively have recorded 1633 deaths or 89.3% of total deaths. Cumulative deaths for the districts include 1432 from Ahmedabad, 154 from Surat and 47 from Vadodara. It’s notable that Vadodara has not recorded the death of a Covid-19 positive patient in the past 12 days.
Gujarat carried out 4433 tests in 24 hours to find new positive patients, taking the total to 3.67 lakh. As on Monday evening, Gujarat has 2.39 lakh persons under quarantine out of which 2.36 lakh are under home quarantine.
