
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the state would introduce tele-medicine services from July 1 to enable patients to consult doctors for medical advice over telephone instead of visiting hospitals and clinics. The state's chief secretary has requested the Centre to stop running long-distance trains to Bengal in order to curb the spread of coronavirus. "We have requested that trains from five Covid-19 hotspots be suspended for the time being," she said, adding that domestic flights to the state should also be restricted.

Tamil Nadu Records 3,949 New Virus Cases | Health officials recorded a total of 3,949 new coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 86,224. The death toll reached 1,141 after 62 more fatalities were recorded. Of the total new cases, 2,167 infections were reported in Chennai alone.

'Covid Warriors Club' Members to Assist Covid-19 Response | About 12,000 patients have already recovered in Bengal. These volunteers, who have fought Covid and won against the disease, will help in assisting the treatment of active Covid-19 patients under 'Covid Warriors Club'. The Maharashtra government on Monday announced that the entire state will remain in lockdown till July 31 to curb the spread of coronavirus. Under the extended lockdown, the government has empowered district collectors and municipal commissioners to impose restrictions on non-essential activities. The government said that movement of people for non-essential activities like shopping and outdoor exercise will be restricted in neighbourhood areas. Maharashtra, with over 1.64 lakh novel coronavirus cases, is the worst hit state in the country.
Project PLATINA, the world's 'largest' convalescent plasma therapy trial cum project in treatment of severe Covid-19 patients, was today launched by the Maharashtra government. It will be world's largest trial cum treatment project in the world where in government intends to benefit and save around 500 lives of critically ill covid 19 patients of Maharashtra.
A single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases took India's tally to 5,48,318 today, while the death toll climbed to 16,475 with 380 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data. This is the sixth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000. The country has seen a surge of 3,57,783 infections from June 1 till date. The number of active cases stands at 2,10,120, while 3,21,722 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data. "Thus, around 58.67 per cent of patients have recovered so far," an official said. The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.
Delhi recorded 2,889 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally in the city over the 83,000-mark, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,623, authorities said. The number of containment zones in the city also jumped to 417 on Sunday from 315 on Saturday, according to a Delhi health department data. The national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases on June 23. Recently, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the city worst-hit by the pandemic in the country. Sixty-five fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Delhi health department bulletin said. It said the death toll due to coronavirus has risen to 2,623 and the total number of cases mounted to 83,077.
A 52-year-old doctor of the city government-run LNJP Hospital who was in the frontline in the war against COVID-19 died of the disease in the ICU of a private facility on Sunday, officials said. Also, a 53-year-old man, who was employed as a ward boy in the NDMC-run Hindu Rao Hospital, succumbed to the infection, they said. According to the bulletin, 52,607 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far. The number of active cases in the national capital stood at 27,847.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown for another 15 days, from July 1 to 15, in the state, which has so far reported a total of 1,092 cases. The lockdown was supposed to be lifted on June 30. Singh also announced that inter-district bus service will be operational between July 1 and 15 maintaining all Covid-19 safety measures and no other public transport will ply during this period. The decision about continuing with the bus service beyond July 15 will be taken later, officials said.
About the coronavirus situation, the chief minister said the state now has 660 active cases while 432 patients have been recovered and released from hospitals. The testing capacity in Manipur has increased to nearly 2,600 tests per day, he said adding that there is no case of community transmission of the disease in the state. All positive cases are returnees except seven frontline workers who were in direct contact with patients, Singh said.
