Representative imagePATNA: Police arrested parents of a 16-year-old girl hours before they were to solemnise her marriage at Nasriganj under the Danapur police station area in Patna on Friday night. A youth from Sonepur was also arrested.
SHO of Danapur police station Rajesh Kumar Sinha said police raided the house of the girl hours before the arrival of the groom for marriage.
“The marriage was stopped. Both father and mother of the girl were arrested and taken to the police station. The two were allowed to go home from police station on condition that they would appear before court and procure bail as per law,” he said.
Sinha said an FIR against the parents was registered under relevant sections of The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. “Under the Act, there is a provision for maximum two years’ imprisonment to the people found involved in getting a minor married,” he said.
