NEW DELHI: The gap between recoveries and active cases of Covid-19 has crossed 1,00,000, the Union health ministry said on Sunday as coronavirus cases in India mounted to 5,28,859 and the death toll rose to 16,095. The recovered cases have exceeded the active cases by 1,06,661, the ministry said.
A total of 3,09,712 patients have been cured of Covid-19 so far with 13,832 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours, it said. "The recovery rate is 58.56 per cent amongst Covid-19 patients," the ministry said.

India
- The country will have to focus on defeating coronavirus and bolstering the economy as it exits from the lockdown and enters the "unlock" phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday underscoring the need to keep guard against the deadly virus.
- He also stressed that India has always transformed adversities into stepping stones to success and this year won't be different. He said as people move out during the unlock period, they have to remain more vigilant compared to the lockdown period.
- Home-based Covid-19 testing kits could soon be a reality with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the National Chemical Laboratory Pune working on an alternative testing method which can not only be performed by individuals at home but will also deliver quick results.
- The collaborative project with the NCL, which comes under the aegis of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, has also received financial support from Microsoft India and is expected to be ready in a month's time.
- In the backdrop of Covid-19, the Indian Railways has decided to suspend the regular train services till August 12. However, all 230 Special Trains, which are presently operational and tickets have been booked on or after 21 May 2020 will continue to run as scheduled.
- The Railways' air conditioned trains will now have operation theatre-like fresh air pumped into its coaches, replacing the circulated air which raises the chances of spread of infections, officials have said.
- The experiment, started with 15 pairs of air conditioned trains being run by the Railways on the Rajdhani routes since May 12, will be replicated in all AC trains as part of the national transporter's preparations for post-COVID operations.

- Manipur: Chief minister N Biren Singh announced the extension of lockdown in the state till July 15. The state has reported 1,092 Covid-19 cases including, 660 active cases and 432 recovered so far.
- Andhra Pradesh: The Covid-19 tally crossed the 13,000 mark to reach 13,098 in Andhra Pradesh as the state saw a record single day spike of 813 cases. A new high of 12 deaths in a day pushed the overall coronavirus toll in the state to 169.
- Delhi: Delhi recorded 2,889 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the city over the 83,000-mark, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,623.
- Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu reported a record single day spike of 3,940 new coronavirus cases taking the overall tally in the state to 82,275. The toll in the state went up to 1,079 with 54 deaths being reported today.
- Haryana: The Haryana government has allowed shopping malls in Gurgaon and Faridabad to reopen from July 1, more than two months after they were shut to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak.
- Karnataka: With a spike in coronavirus cases in the city, revenue minister R Ashoka said an expert committee advising the Karnataka government on Covid-19 related matters would soon submit its report on possible community transmission.
- Maharashtra: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said the lockdown curbs in the state will continue beyond June 30. In a televised address, Thackeray ruled out easing the restrictions, adding the state still faces coronavirus threat.
- Punjab: Chief minister Amarinder Singh announced postponement of final semester exams in all the universities and colleges of the state till July 15. The final decision on the subject will, however, be subject to the new directions/guidelines expected to be released by the University Grants Commission any time.
- HP: Eight more people, including an army and a BSF jawan, tested positive for Covid-19 in Himachal Pradesh, taking the tally in the state to 903.
- Nagaland: Nagaland reported 28 new Covid-19 cases, taking the northeast state's tally to 415. Of the total 415 cases, 251 are active as 164 people have recovered from the deadly virus.
- MP: The Madhya Pradesh government will launch a 'Kill Corona' campaign from July 1 to control the spread of Covid-19 in the state. During the 15-day campaign, 2.5 lakh tests will be carried out and 15,000 to 20,000 samples would be collected daily.
- UP: The death toll due to coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh reached 660 with 11 more fatalities, while the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state climbed to 22,147 after 606 fresh infections were reported.
- Ladakh: Three more people tested positive for coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the number of infections in the Union territory to 963.
- West Bengal: The Bengal Safari, a state government-run wild animals park, in Darjeeling district and other tourist spots under the forest department will be opened after taking all precautionary measures to check the spread of coronavirus.
- Bihar: Bihar's minister Vinod Kumar Singh and his wife tested positive for Covid-19 and were sent to an isolation ward at a city hotel in Katihar district.
- Puducherry: A retired police constable died of Covid-19 while 29 fresh cases were reported, taking the toll to 11 and the tally of infections to 648 in the Union territory.
- Rajasthan: The coronavirus toll in Rajasthan rose to 396 with five more fatalities, while 175 fresh cases took the number of infections to 17,119.
- Odisha: The Covid-19 death toll in Odisha mounted to 21 with three more patients succumbing to the disease, while the count of cases rose to 6,614 after 264 more people tested positive for the infection.
- Kerala: Kerala's Covid-19 tally touched 4,189 with 118 new cases with two doctors and three health workers among those who tested positive on Sunday while over 1.73 lakh people are under observation.
- Gujarat: Six workers of a diamond polishing unit in Gujarat's Bhavnagar have tested coronavirus positive, following which the establishment has been partially shut.

- Global infections from the novel coronavirus have surpassed 10 million as the rate of new cases surges, according to an AFP tally. One million new cases were recorded in only six days, according to the AFP count, just as countries start to unwind punishing lockdowns that have devastated their economies and thrown millions out of work.
- The number of Covid-19 cases in the United States has exceeded 2.5 million, according to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Centre. So far, there are 2,505,593 coronavirus cases and 679,308 recoveries in the country. The death toll stands at 125,480.
- The UK government said it is planning to impose localised lockdowns in some regions showing a spike in coronavirus infections, as latest figures showed that Indian-origin people remain in the category of those hardest hit from the deadly virus among Britain's ethnic minorities.
- Beijing began massive nucleic acid tests on more than 100,000 students, faculty and staff from nearly 100 universities as part of the city's effort to curb the latest outbreak of the coronavirus which has so far led to 311 local cases.
- The Sri Lankan government completely lifted a curfew imposed to contain the spread of the coronavirus after no new case of community infection was recorded for nearly two months in the country. Lanka has so far recorded only 2,033 coronavirus cases and 11 fatalities.
- The coronavirus infection has spread to all the 77 districts in Nepal with the detection of 463 new Covid-19 cases in the country. The deadly virus has so far claimed 28 lives in Nepal. With the detection of 463 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the total tally now stands at 12,772.
- Pakistan's number of coronavirus cases crossed 200,000 after 4,072 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, while 83 people died of the disease, taking the death toll to 4,118.
- Singapore authorities have asked the people to adhere to social distancing and other coronavrius prevention norms after the island nation reported 213 new cases. Of the new cases, 202 are foreign workers residing in packed dormitories, which have accounted for most of Singapore's virus cases. Now, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore stands at 43,459.
