With 126 cases, Gurgaon goes past 5k mark

Gurgaon: The district reported 126 fresh Covid cases on Saturday, breaching the 5,000 mark to reach 5,070. Across Haryana, the Covid count reached 13,427, with 543 cases added to the tally on Saturday. Two Covid patients died in Gurgaon and one succumbed to the virus in Faridabad.
While Gurgaon took 78 days to reach the first 1,000 cases, the next took just eight days. In another five days, the tally had crossed the 3,000 mark and it got to 4,000 in the next six days. Eight more days, and the district’s figure crossed 5,000.
Although the Covid rate in Haryana has moved faster, its trend has remained more or less constant. The state took 30 days to reach 1,000 cases, eight to cross 2,000, just three to jump from 3,000 to 4,000 and two to go past 6,000. The numbers shot past 7,000 in just a day, crossed 8,000 in two days, 9,000 in another two days, 10,000 in one day, 12,000 in four days and 13,000 in the next two days.
As of now, Gurgaon accounts for 37% of all Covid cases in Haryana. Faridabad, which added 191 cases on Saturday and reached 3,325, makes up for 24.7% of the state’s numbers. The spike in Faridabad has been sharp after the first 1,000 cases. It took 71 days to go past 1,000 cases and just eight days to cross 2,000. In another eight days, Faridabad had crossed the 3,000 mark. Gurgaon and Faridabad together make up for 62% of Haryana’s cases.
Gurgaon’s positivity rate of 17.39% has been much higher than that of Haryana’s 5.56%, which means more people have tested positive compared to the number of tests that have been conducted so far. Haryana has conducted 9,749 tests per million.
As of Saturday, Gurgaon is dealing with the highest number of active cases in Haryana — a total of 1,518. Faridabad, so far, has 1,425 active cases, while there are 4,737 active patients across the state.
The district also discharged 202 Covid patients on Saturday — a total of 3,469 patients have recovered so far. On the other hand, Faridabad saw 94 patients go home from hospitals — 1,829 have recovered so far. By Saturday, a total of 8,472 patients had recovered in Haryana.
The trend of numbers, however, shows that the rate of rise in Covid cases has slowed somewhat in Gurgaon in the past two weeks. Officials attributed it to faster contact tracing and sample collection.
“We have increased our sample collection, which is helping us curb the spread of the virus,” said Gurgaon chief medical officer Virender Yadav.
As of now, 83 people have died after testing positive in Gurgaon. In Faridabad, 71 people who died were found to have been infected with Covid. Across Haryana, 218 people have died of the virus till now.
