Margao: Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Quepem and Canacona talukas of South Goa district, although there have been self-imposed lockdowns in the towns.
Quepem town had gone on a five-day lockdown after four members of a family had tested positive; the total COVID count in the taluka has gone up to 10.
One the other hand, Canacona taluka has seen five COVID positive cases.
Informed sources explained that cases emerged mostly after the ‘incubation’ period, following the first cases reported in Quepem and Canacona talukas.
It is pertinent to note that no fresh cases were reported in Quepem and Canacona in the last 24 hours.
But in Salcete taluka, cases continue to rise with Curtorim topping the chart with 31 cases. Cases linked to Ambelim stand at 25, while Margao has seen 14 and Loutolim 11 cases.
Chinchinim has seen four cases, Navelim (5), while Telaulim and Assolna each have recorded one COVID positive case.
However, the abovementioned villages did not report fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
Deputy sarpanch of Chinchinim Valentino Barretto rued that people are not maintaining the social distancing norm, calling for strict enforcement of the norms in the village.
Panchayat members and traders also opined that police personnel should be deployed to enforce social distancing.
