Ahmedabad: Woman cheated of Rs 25,000 by cyber frauds

AHMEDABAD : As online transactions are increasing day by day, so are the cyber fraud cases in which people are targeted by cyber thugs sitting in Delhi or in Jamtara of Jharkhand. In one such case registered in Bapunagar police station on Sunday, a 27-year-old woman Himani Patel was cheated of Rs 25,000 on the pretext of alloting her a credit card.
Patel, who lives on Hirawadi Road in Bapunagar with her aunty and husband Laukik Patel and works in Krishbhavan in Gandhinagar as a Technical Assistant has mentioned in the FIR that on Friday while she was in the office, she received a call at around 1.45 pm from lady who identified herself as Sheetal Sharma from a private bank's head office in which the victim has her account.
"The caller said that a credit card has been issued on the victim's name. However the victim declined and said she doesn’t want a credit card. The caller than said that if wants to decline the credit card she will have get her debit card verified. The caller took the victim's debit card number, the three figure CVV number and within seconds the victim started receiving OTPs (One Time Password) on her mobile number, which the victim gave to the caller. There after Rs 25,000 were debited from her account in three to four transactions" said a police official.
The complainant then dialed 100 and lodged an application online in the cyber police station. "From there she was given a ticket number based on which she has lodged a complaint at Bapunagar police station on Sunday" said a police source.
